Abstract

The increasing of operating system recently, hence the necessity of multiplatform application increased.  And also text editor, the application which is often use by user. Therefore, final purpose of this research is text editor application that can run in various operating systems. This application use java programming.

1.   Introduction

There are many kinds of text editor applications, such as Notepad, Notepad++, WordPad, etc. But, they can only run in one operating system. In other word, text editor application must be changed when operating system change. This is quite troublesome for user that works with various operating systems.

Nowadays, user more often search and use portable applications. The advantages of portable applications are:

·         No more need hard disk space so can carry anywhere

·         No installation for its usage

Notepad Open Source (NOS) is text editor application made for answering user’s necessity. The difference between NOS and the other text editor application is existence of Indonesian corrector for its writing.  The mistake of typing is corrected automatically by NOS.

NOS, an application based on open source. NOS can use and develop by anyone which is appropriate with their need.

2.   Methodology

Like other text editor, NOS also have base function of text editor. But, NOS more suitable for Indonesian peoples because one of the feature that will be made is automatically correction for Indonesian word.

NOS application will be made with java programming. So, this application can run in various operating systems that installed with Java Runtime Environment (JRE). In order to make and develop by anyone, NOS will be made with open source image.

The beginning for making NOS is build typing feature which is the principal of text editor application. Furthermore, build browse feature, then correction feature. Detailed for this feature will explain in the third part.

3.   Results

The result of this research is a text editor application that can run in various operating systems. This text editor is called Notepad Open Source (NOS). NOS is an application based on open source. NOS can use and develop by anyone which is appropriate with their need. The type of this application is .jar file that can run in computer with Java Run Time (JRE) installed. Beside for editor, NOS also have the other feature such as:

·       Browse

It can use to search the wanted word.

·   Corrector

It can use to correct and make the typing mistake for Indonesian word true.

4.   Discussions

The principle of making NOS application is joining editor function in general with corrector ability for Indonesian language. Besides that, NOS is also used to answers user need, such as it can run in various operating systems, no more need hard disk space so can carry anywhere, and no installation for its usage.

5.   Conclusions

The Conclusion of this research are :

·         Text editor application can used at various operating system (multiplatform)

·         This application no more need hard disk space so can carry anywhere

·         No installation for the computer

·         Automatically corrected for the mistakes of typing in Indonesian Language

·         User can search and find word easier
